Project overview.

Industry: Medical Research / Life Sciences

A leading medical research institute in Kansas City—focused on advancing cell biology, genetics, and molecular biology—engaged PM2NET to assess its identity and messaging environments. The project evaluated Active Directory (on-premises), Microsoft Entra ID, and Exchange Online to understand the current state, identify risk and operational gaps, and provide practical recommendations to strengthen security, consistency, and compliance.

(02)

Challenge.

The institute required a structured assessment to determine whether its core identity and collaboration platforms were configured and operated in line with best practices. Key needs included:

Risk and vulnerability identification across AD, Entra ID, and Exchange Online

Gap analysis of configurations and controls affecting security and efficiency

SOP validation, including confirming whether standard operating procedures existed and where they were missing or incomplete

Actionable remediation guidance to improve governance, security posture, and compliance readiness

(03)

Result.

PM2NET conducted a phased assessment beginning with a discovery call to confirm objectives and scope. The team then performed data collection and discovery for Entra ID, followed by assessment of the on-premises Active Directory environment, including continued discovery, documentation, and scripting to capture findings consistently. PM2NET produced supporting scripts, files, and detailed documentation of the assessment activities, culminating in a comprehensive report outlining identified risks and gaps, along with prioritized recommendations and remediation strategies to improve security, operational efficiency, and compliance.
